North Recreation Area, located within the Conchas Lake State Park, provides ample opportunities for fishing, swimming, camping, boating of all kinds, hiking, and even golf. As one would expect at one of the state's largest lakes, boating and fishing are the main activities.
Conchas Lake is particularly popular with families and retirees, and boats here range from canoes to sailboats to large cabin cruisers and houseboats. Water-skiing and the use of personal water-craft are popular in summer, and because the wind blows at 15 miles per hour more than half the time, the lake is being discovered by windsurfers.
The lake has about 60 miles of shoreline with numerous little coves, inlets, and secluded areas that make it easy for boaters to get away from the crowds. Although there are no designated swimming beaches, swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving in the clear water are permitted in most areas.
