| The Millicent Rogers Museum's collections include traditional and contemporary Hispanic religious and domestic arts, pottery, paintings, photography and graphics, and a wide range of arts and crafts from the many cultures of northern New Mexico. On permanent display is a unique collection of the pottery made and owned by famed San Ildefonso, Maria Martinez and her family. The Hispanic collections feature traditional New Mexican religious sculpture and painting, Spanish Colonial furniture and Rio Grande weavings. Other permanent exhibitions include colorful Native American weavings, Zuni and Hopi Kachina figures, prehistoric and contemporary ceramics from the region and modern jewelry designs. Changing exhibitions focus on materials, techniques, themes and issues that reveal the multicultural contexts and histories of northern New Mexico.The Museum is housed in a traditional one-story adobe home, situated on a sagebrush mesa with views of Taos Mountain and the Sangre de Cristo range. The Museum Store features one-of-a-kind arts and crafts--jewelry, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, graphics and photography--by leading artists and craftspeople throughout the region, products that take their inspiration from the rich permanent collections and designs that relate to the local landscapes, environments and cultures. The Museum Store also contains an unusually complete bookstore focusing on the arts, architecture, literature and cultures of the Southwest. |
