Nestled in the wooded foothills of the Manzanos, Manzano Mountains State Park is a place for birding, photography, hiking, and camping. A forest of ponderosa pine, Gambel's oak and alligator juniper provides abundant habitat for a rich diversity of wildlife.
Watch for Abert's squirrel, Steller's jay, mule deer and black bear, among many others. The Manzano Mountains play an important role as a raptor flyway. Some birds may fly 200 miles in a day and several thousand miles in a season. The park has a field checklist available to visitors who enjoy birding.
While camping at Manzano, consider spending a day at the Hawk Watch site on top of nearby Capilla Peak.
This state park contains five miles of trails that encircles the Manzano Mountains campground. The campground offers 37 developed sites and seven that are full hook-up.
