Formerly a state park, the Kit Carson Park was taken over in 1987 by the town of Taos. The gravesites of the legendary Kit Carson and Mabel Dodge Luhan, the famous art patron, are found in the park.
Plenty of sports and recreational opportunities are available at the park including tennis, basketball and a baseball diamond that is often used by local Little League. Take a jog or hike on the .75 mile closed loop within the facility, or try the sand volleyball courts.
Loads of fairs and festivals pop up at the park throughout the warmer months. Numerous craft fairs set up shop in the summer, plus a Solar Festival every June featuring a large outdoor music concert. The Wool Festival in October brings together wool producers from all over Northern New Mexico to show off their fuzzy wares.
