| This portion of the Elliott Barker Trail takes you on approximately a 3 hour hike in the Carson National Forest. If you hike straight in (don't branch off to the left or right) you will find a pond about a 1/4 of a mile in, then you can continue southwest up the mountain to the top of the Palo Flechado Pass where you will wind through a wooden gate and head southeast. The trail will turn back to the east and then north as you descend back to your starting place. You may want to take a compass with you as the trail is not well marked on the south side and you could branch off onto other trails. This trail offers beautiful views, but does not have water so you will want to take water with you. You may want to take just a short hike up to the pond and back down. You will need snow boots in the winter or may want to take along your snowshoes. Be aware that all types of wildlife roam the forests, including bear, coyote, elk, deer, and the occasional newt or snake. |
