One of New Mexico's largest lakes, Conchas Lake State Park provides ample opportunities for fishing, swimming, camping, boating of all kinds, hiking, and even golf. As one would expect at one of the state's largest lakes, boating and fishing are the main activities.
Conchas Lake is particularly popular with families and retirees, and boats here range from canoes to sailboats to large cabin cruisers and houseboats. Water-skiing and the use of personal water-craft are popular in summer, and because the wind blows at 15 miles per hour more than half the time, the lake is being discovered by windsurfers.
The lake has about 60 miles of shoreline with numerous little coves, inlets, and secluded areas that make it easy for boaters to get away from the crowds. Although there are no designated swimming beaches, swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving in the clear water are permitted in most areas.
The lake is regularly stocked by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. The best times to catch walleye and crappie are spring and fall. Anglers catch channel catfish, bluegill, largemouth bass, bullhead and sunfish year-round. There is a wheelchair-accessible courtesy dock at the North Recreation Area.

Facilities: Conchas Lake State Park provides 105 developed camping sites, 40 of which are designated full hook-up. There are also 110 individual campsites designated for tents. Restrooms and picnic areas are also provided.

Reservations: Certain campsites at Conchas Lake State Park do require reservations.

Best Time To Visit: Unknown

Fees: A day usage fee and an overnight camping fee do apply.

Accessibility: The restrooms, showers, courtesy docks, and marina area all handicapped accessible.

Rules: Know all park rules and regulations, which are posted in the park. Drive only on designated roadways and obey posted speed limits. Camp only in the designated areas. Keep pets on leashes. (It is a good idea to have proof of current rabies immunizations when traveling with pets in New Mexico since it is required by law in some of the state's recreation areas.) Do not feed the wildlife. Be aware that vandalizing, defacing, or removing antiquities, minerals, plants or wildlife is absolutely prohibited. Bring your own firewood since none is available in the park. Bring and drink ample water, at least one gallon per day per person, and allow for the extreme heat of the desert in the summer.

Directions: To get to Conchas Lake State Park from Santa Rosa drive east on I-40 to Tucumcari. The Park is 34 miles northwest of Tucumcari via NM 104.
