Set among rolling grasslands, Clayton Lake Campground offers trout, catfish, and bass fishing. Walk a half-mile to the lake's spillway and see the internationally significant dinosaur track way, containing more than 500 footprints dating back more than 100 million years. Plant-eating and carnivorous dinosaurs, as well as some ancient crocodiles, made these prints. Interpretive markers identify significant tracks and paleontological features on the walk.

There is a campground with 33 sites, 7 of which have electric hookup. The park sits at 4,200 feet and covers 9,600 acres of land. The lake offers fishing; four state-record walleyes have been caught since 1980.

Facilities: Clayton Lake Campground provides a visitor center and group picnic shelter. Restrooms and showers are also provided. There is also a courtesy boat dock, and a few hiking trails.

Accessibility: The restrooms, showers, boat dock, individual tent campsites, and group shelter are accessible.

Rules: Drive only on designated roadways and obey posted speed limits. Camp only in the designated areas. Keep pets on leashes. Do not feed the wildlife. Be aware that vandalizing, defacing, or removing antiquities, minerals, plants or wildlife is absolutely prohibited. Camping is limited to 21 days.

Directions: To get to Clayton Lake Campground from Raton, take US-64/87 to Clayton. Clayton Lake State Park is 12 miles north of Clayton via NM 370.
