Cimarron Canyon State Park is seated high in the mountains at 8,000 feet elevation where cliffs and clear running waters dominate the landscape. It covers 33,000 acres of wild lands. The park is part of the 33,116-acre Colin Neblett Wildlife Area, the largest wildlife area in the state.
Wildlife viewing is plentiful as songbirds, elk, deer, bear, turkey and grouse call the park home. Anglers can fish 8 miles of water for stocked browns or rainbows. Smaller trout can be found in the Cimarron River's tributaries, Clear Creek and Tolby Creek.
Crenellated granite formations make up steep palisade cliffs that dominate the park's scenery. You can climb the rocks along the palisades with a special-use permit from the park.
