Caballo Lake State Park sits at an elevation of 4,100 feet and covers 5,300 acres of land in addition to the lake. Park amenities include a visitor center, group picnic shelter, a playground, restrooms, and showers. Camping facilities include 136 developed sites, 64 with electrical hookup, and a RV dump station.
This park's claims to fame are the majestic Bald and Golden Eagles that migrate through, beginning in late October. Numerous Golden Eagles nest in the nearby Caballo foothills, while Bald Eagles will nest in large areas around the park, as well as within the park.
The area is home to largemouth bass, walleye, white bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, northern pike, sunfish, and an occasional rainbow trout. Best fishing is late April through August.
Visitors can stroll among yuccas, century plants, ocotillos, cow tongues, prickly pears, and other desert cacti growing in the park's two cacti gardens. Most of these cactus provide beautiful blooms in late March and early April.
