Brushy Point Campground, located inside the Huron Lake State Park, offers 32 individual campsites that are primarily for tent campers. A five and one-half mile scenic trail along the Rio Chama connects the nearby El Vado Lake with Heron Lake. Quiet coves around the lake are good places to catch trout and Kokanee salmon. The lake and surrounding area are a major wintering ground for bald eagles and other birds such as red-tail hawks, and ospreys.

Facilities: Brushy Point Campground offers restrooms and picnic areas.

Reservations: Certain campsites at Brushy Point Campground do require reservations.

Best Time To Visit: Unknown

Fees: A day usage fee and an overnight camping fee do apply.

Accessibility: The restrooms and showers are both accessible.

Rules: Know all park rules and regulations, which are posted in the park. Drive only on designated roadways and obey posted speed limits. Camp only in the designated areas. Keep pets on leashes. (It is a good idea to have proof of current rabies immunizations when traveling with pets in New Mexico since it is required by law in some of the state's recreation areas.) Do not feed the wildlife. Bring your own firewood since none is available in the park. Bring and drink ample water, at least one gallon per day per person, and allow for the extreme heat of the desert in the summer.

Directions: To get to Brushy Point Campground from Taos drive west on US-64/84 to Tierra Amarilla. Heron Lake State Park is 11 miles west of Tierra Amarilla via US highways 64 and 84 and NM 95.
