St. Anthony was founded by Carlos H. Moon in 1890, on the north fork of the Snake River. Moon named the town St. Anthony because the area looked much like an area he had seen in Minnesota named St. Anthony Falls.

St. Anthony grew up on both sides of the river with the largest growth occurring when a branch line of the Oregon Short Line Railroad was completed from Idaho Falls to St. Anthony in the spring of 1900. Saint Anthony is also the county seat of Fremont County.
The Targhee and the Caribou National Forests are within easy driving distance from St. Anthony. There are plenty of opportunities for hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking within the forests.
Do you like geocaching? Saint Anthony, Idaho offers over 400 opportunities for geocaching. When you visit Saint Anthony, be sure to bring your GPS and look for geocaches near Saint Anthony.
