Fishing In National Forests

Sawtooth National Forest
Sawtooth National Forest comprises more that 2.1 million acres of public land, most of it in south-central Idaho, with one unit in northern Utah. Hunters come here for deer, elk, antelope, mountain goat, bear, and mountain lion. Sightseers, bird watchers, hikers, horse riders, and trail and mountain bikers add to recreational traffic on the Sawtooth National Forest.

Niagra Springs State Park
The park is known for the springs that are national and natural landmarks. Visitors are given the opportunity to drive into the 350- foot-deep canyon. Wildlife and fishing are also big attractions in this park.

Magic Reservoir
This reservoir at 14,000 acres, offers some of Southern Idaho's best fishing, boating and water skiing. It is available year-round. Ice fishing is popular here in the winter. Facilities are available.

Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir
The reservoir is 14 miles long, and it provides visitors with opportunities to catch nine species of game fish. Trophy catches are a common occurrence. Facilities are available.

Thorn Creek Reservoir
The reservoir provides fishing opportunities to visitors. It is only open to non-motorized watercraft. In the spring and fall waterfowl and shorebirds make their homes at the reservoir. Facilities are available.

Schipper Campground
This campground is set on the banks of a small stream. The stream is situated in a high desert environment. Visitors are able to fish. Various trails are available near the campground as well. Facilities are provided.

Snake River
The river stretches 60 miles to it's confluence with the Henrys Fork. This large river offers its visitors a wide variety of recreation. It includes fishing, boating, camping, sightseeing, picnicking, wildlife watching and biking. Facilities are available.

Upper Penstemon Campground
This campground is in a pine forest. Trout fishing opportunities are nearby. These campgrounds are used to make cross country skiing and sledding available. Deer and elk reside in this area. Assorted trails are available nearby.
