| Facilities: Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve offers restrooms, trails, a visitor center, and a campground. The visitor center contains a museum with exhibits explaining the natural and cultural history of the area. A campground near the visitor center provides sites for campers.There are trails available for biking and hiking. The trails allow visitors to better explore the Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Reservations: Reservations are not accepted or required to visit Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. Best Time To Visit: Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve is open all year, although winter snows limit automobile access around the Loop Drive and on roads in the Preserve. Robert Limbert Visitor Center is open September 2, 2003 till Memorial Day 2004 8 AM to 4:30 PM.Fees: Entrance fees are charged. Accessibility: The visitor center, including restrooms, is wheelchair accessible. Devil's Orchard Trail is a 1/2-mile fully accessible loop trail. Campground restroom is accessible. Rules: Free permits are required for overnight camping in the Craters of the Moon Wilderness Area. Permits are available at the Visitor Center. Pets are allowed at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, but must be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs (with the exception of seeing-eye dogs) and other pets are not allowed in the visitor center or on hiking trails. Pets may not be left unattended.Directions: Craters of the Moon National Monument is located 18 miles west of Arco on Highway 20. The visitor center is located off Highway 20/26/93 mid-way between Arco and Carey Idaho. |
