Winchester Lake State Park surrounds a 103-acre lake, located in a forested area at the foot of the Craig Mountains. The park offers year-round recreation activities and has a modern campground. Winters here are long and cold with snowfall. Summers are short with warm days and cool evenings. The vegetation is dominated by ponderosa pine and Douglas fir.
Wildlife most commonly seen in the park includes white-tailed deer, Canada geese, raccoons, muskrats, painted turtles, osprey, herons, and garter snakes. The most popular activity at Winchester is fishing for rainbow trout, which are planted annually by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Fishing for bullhead and smallmouth bass is also popular. The lake provides excellent nutrients and supports large populations of all three species.
