The Lander Tail
Courtesy of EatStayPlay.com
The Lander Tail, which crosses the Soda Springs Ranger District, was the first Government-built wagon road in the West. Wagon trains used the Lander Trail as a cutoff from the Oregon Trail to the California gold fields. Today the trail is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A video, featuring actors, authentic costumes and wagons, is available to tell the real story of the Lander Trail. A Lander Trail brochure will help guide you during your drive over the trail and your walk through portions of the trail rutted by wagons and tree carvings left by early pioneers.
