St. Joe River area takes you deep into the Panhandle National Forest. Sixty miles of the river above Avery have been declared part of the National Wild & Scenic River system. The upper 30 miles of the Saint Joe makes for challenging whitewater rafting or kayaking in early July. The 70 mile section from Avery to Lake Coeur d'Alene is appropriate for all skill levels.


Facilities: Saint Joe River provides a boat launch and restrooms.

Best Time To Visit: Saint Joe River is open daily during daylight hours.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Directions: To reach Saint Joe River from Coeur D'Alene start out going west on East Garden Avenue toward North 4th Street for 0.4 miles. Turn right onto Northwest Boulevard for 0.5 miles. Take the US-95 ramp toward Plummer for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto US-95 for 33.1 miles. Turn left onto Cedar Street. Continue to follow ID-5 for 18.3 miles. ID-5 becomes 15th Street for 0.1 miles. Stay straight to go onto ID-5 for 0.5 miles. Turn right onto 4th Street. Continue to follow 4th Street for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto West Jefferson Avenue for 0.1 miles. End at Saint Maries.
