| Upper Salmon River is used by float boaters mostly on the Piece of Cake section, which runs about ten miles from Sunbeam Dam to Torrey's Hole. The float boat season runs from mid-May until the end of September. This is a family-style section of river, used by a wide range of float boaters, from beginners rafting for the first time with outfitters, to private boaters with some experience, to expert kayakers wanting a few miles of practice. It is estimated that the use of this section is 11,000 to 12,000 people annually. Four commercial outfitters host a total of about 9,000 guests. The remainder are private boaters. The area also offers world-class steelhead fishing as well as premier canoeing, wildlife viewing opportunities, and many spring wild flowers. |
