The Lochsa River has private timber lands that are primarily located in the headwaters within the Powell area. This river is considered a great fishing spot. With the exception of portions of the Powell area, and lower northern portion of the drainage, the majority of the Lochsa River drainage is located near road-less areas, including a large portion that is designated wilderness. Access to the river varies due to drainage from relatively easy access to streams from existing roads to hikes of over 20 miles.
There is a variety of fish in the river including westslope cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, bull trout, steelhead trout, chinhook salmon, and brook trout.
