Leatherman Pass Trail #89 stretches a length of 4 miles. The level of difficulty has been established as moderate. Access #1 begins at Sawmill Gulch Road #411 off State Highway 93. Access #2 begins on Pahsimeroi Road #267. The trail ends at the end of the east fork of Pahsimeroi Road #267. An elevation of 7,040 feet is reached.
The trail begins at a forest service building on an old two-track mining road up Sawmill Gulch. Hikers will follow the old road for approximately 2 miles to where the mining road turns to the left and switchbacks up the mountain side. The trail leaves the old road at the bottom of the canyon and follows Little Creek up through the slide rock through Leatherman Pass. After Leatherman Pass, visitor will be on the Challis Ranger District and will follow the trail down the Pahsimeroi Valley side for about 1 mile. There will be a trail taking off to the left which will take the hiker about 1/2 mile to Pass Lake where those wishing to fish or just view a lovely lake nestled above the tree line among the rocks will want to spend a little time. The main trail will lead back down to the Pahsimeroi Valley road.
