Lake Pend Oreille was formed by glaciers and encircled by mountain peaks and deep green forests. Lake Pend Oreille is one of the largest inland lakes in North America and Idaho's largest as well. The name came from the early French trappers, referring to the earlobe pendants worn by the local Indian tribe. A renowned recreation and fishing mecca with a shoreline of 143 miles, its depth has been measured in excess of 1,170 feet. Visitors can view the wildlife here and take their boats on the lake.

Facilities: Lake Pend Oreille provides restrooms, boat facilities, parking, and a dump station.

Reservations: Lake Pend Oreille accepts reservations for large groups.

Directions: To reach Lake Pend Oreille from Sandpoint, start out going south on 4th Avenue toward Cedar Street for 0.1 miles. Turn right onto Cedar Street for 0.1 miles. Turn left onto 5th Avenue. Continue to follow US-95 S for 0.6 miles. Turn left onto US-95 for 5.2 miles. Turn left onto Sagle Road for 0.8 miles. Sagle Road becomes Garfield Bay Road.
