American River Campground is situated among the lodgepole pine trees on the American River. Fishing is available at the river. Hunting is allowed when in season. There is a lot of wildlife in the area. Visitors can see deer, elk, moose and bears. Supplies are located 6.5 miles from Elk City. This campground is a popular spot for holiday weekends, however, it is not as crowded on weekdays. The maximum spur is 20 feet, and there are 2 single sites available.
