Downtown Honolulu (four miles northwest of Waikiki) sits on the shores of sheltered Honolulu Harbor, where large cruise ships began to arrive in the 1920s and still make port today.
Greater Honolulu stretches about eight miles northwest to southeast, encompassing numerous districts and residential areas. These include Salt Lake, Kalihi, Nuuanu, Ala Moana, Waikiki, Manoa (home to the University of Hawaii-Manoa), Makiki, Diamond Head, Portlock, Kaimuki, Kahala, Waialae, Niu Valley, 'Aina Haina and Hawaii Kai.
Do you like geocaching? Honolulu, Hawaii offers over 600 opportunities for geocaching. When you visit Honolulu, be sure to bring your GPS and look for geocaches near Honolulu.
Heading northwest from downtown you'll find Honolulu International Airport and neighboring Hickam Air force Base.
