Wahiawa is home of the ancient birthstones of the alii (Hawaiian royalty), Dole Plantation, Schofield Barracks Army Base and Wheeler Army Airfield. During the first wave of the Japanese Imperial Navy's attack on Oahu on Dec. 7, 1941, Wheeler Army Airfield was one of the first locations to be bombed by Japanese fighter planes.
