Kalopa State Recreation Area

Kalopa State Recreation Area sits in a 100-acre ohia forest at an elevation of 2,000 feet on the Big Island. With an annual average rainfall of 90 inches, Kalopa is a true rain forest.
A .7-mile loop nature trail makes an easy family hike through an old ohia forest. Another trail leads through a forest of eucalyptus trees to Kalopa Gulch in the adjoining forest reserve, where there are more hiking trails and a two-mile bridle path.
Park facilities include rental cabins and a three-site tent camping area with a cold-water shower and flush toilet.

Facilities: The Kalopa State Recreation Area provides restrooms, picnic tables, and fire grills.

Reservations: Reservations are required to camp at the Kalopa State Recreation Area.

Best Time To Visit: The Kalopa State Recreation Area is open year round.

Fees: There are no fees charged to enter the Kalopa State Recreation Area. Overnight camping fees will apply.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Be sure to know all park rules and regulations which are posted in the park.

Directions: The Kalopa State Recreation Area is located on the northwestern side of the Big Island. The site is three miles inland from Mamalahoa Highway, approximately five miles southeast of Honokaa.
