Earthquake Trail is made up of a section of road cracked and destroyed in 1983 by a magnitude 6.6 Mauna Loa earthquake. Visitors can enjoy plants, birds, insects, earthcracks, views of Kilauea Caldera and Mauna Loa.

To reach Hawaii Volcanoes National Park from Kailua-Kona, drive southeast for about 96 on HWY 11 (2 to 2 1/2 hour drive).
To reach Hawaii Volcanoes National Park from Hilo, take Hwy 11. The park is 30 miles from Hilo (45 minute drive).
