Koaie Primitive Campground

Koaie Primitive Campground lies at the end of Mohihi - Waialae Trail in the Na Pali - Kona Forest Reserve. An abandoned shack, between the trail and camping area, is a landmark for backpackers. This is used mainly by rodents and not recommended for shelter during inclement weather.

Facilities: Koaie Primitive Campground is a primitive area with no facilities. Water is available at this site from Koaie Stream, but it must be treated before consumed.

Reservations: Reservations are required for Koaie Primitive Campground.

Best Time To Visit: Koaie Primitive Campground is open year round.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Permits for the use of Koaie Primitive Campground must be obtained from the Kauai Division of Forestry in Lihue. Maximum length of stay is 3 days.

Directions: To reach Koaie Primitive Campground from Hanapepe, take Hwy 50 to Hwy 550. Follow 550 to Kokee State Park Headquarters. From here drive north on Hwy 550 and turn right on to the second dirt road. This is Camp 10-Mohihi Road. Three and a half miles from this turn is the Kawaikoi Primitive and Sugi Grove Primitive Campgrounds. After passing these campgrounds continue following the Camp 10 Road to its end at a picnic area. The Mohihi Waialae Trail begins as the road ends, and before crossing the Mohihi Ditch. Follow this trail to its end and the Koaie camping area. This campground is accessible by foot only.
