This town has somehow escaped the ski resort-town image. Just west of the Winter Park/Mary Jane ski area, Winter Park offers all the necessities with none of the attitude. After a long day skiing the diverse slopes, the town of Winter Park is a casual stop for a slice of pizza.

In the winter, snowmobiling and cross-country at the Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center (15 miles north of Winter Park) are also a big hit. Summer mountain biking has become increasingly popular in the surrounding valley that's full of rolling trails in Arapaho National Forest. The local chamber of commerce produces a map to the more than 660 miles of fat-tire paths. Fishing, rafting, horseback riding, and ski lift-fed adventures are other warm-weather options in Winter Park.
Between Winter Park and Fraser, Cozen Ranch Museum has restored a 13-room ranch house, stage stop, and post office - all worth a look for learning more about the history of the valley.
