Natural hot springs attracted Steamboat Springs' first visitors as early as 1902, around the same time the town started holding rodeos. From hiking and biking trails, to fishing and kayaking the Yampa River, and an array of downtown shops and restaurants, Steamboat Springs has a lot to offer. Steamboat Springs, CO is also a gateway to Dinosaur National Monument.
Steamboat Springs' skiing tradition began in 1913 when Norwegian Carl Howelsen organized the first Winter Carnival, a popular February event ever since. Januarys Cowboy Downhill features ProRodeo cowboys on skis and snowboards racing through a slalom course. Steamboat Springs, nicknamed Ski Town USA has been home of over 50 Winter Olympians and often hosts Nordic Combined and Freestyle World Cup skiing events.
Summer in Steamboat Springs posts a full schedule of events including the popular Rainbow Weekend in July with a hot air balloon rodeo and a two-day Art in the Park festival. Throughout the summer, music echoes across the valley with the Strings in the Mountains Festival of Music and the citys Free Concert Series.
