Horse Use In National Forests Routt-Medicine Bow National Forest The Routt-Medicine Bow National Forest has diverse topography consisting of high plateaus, rolling foothills and mountains. Elevations exceed 13,000 feet in some locations. The Routt National Forest manages four congressionally designated Wilderness areas, which offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities for visitors. White River National Forest Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the White River National Forest consists of 2.3 million acres and 8 wilderness areas. White River National Forest is known as the top recreation forest in the nation. Return to Top of Page Trails Baldy Trail This 6.8 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 8,264 and the ending elevation is 10,845 feet. Bear River Trail This 3.0 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,280 feet and the ending elevation is 11,400 feet. Black Mountain Creek Trail This 5.9 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,780 feet and the ending elevation is 9,730 feet. Bunker Basin Trail This 3.0 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,720 feet and the ending elevation is 8,788 feet. Burton Creek Trail This 2.9 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,000 feet and the ending elevation is 8,400 feet. Crater Lake Trail #105 This 15.7 mile trail sees moderate usage. It has a beginning elevation of 9,700 feet and an ending elevation of 9,220 feet and transverses through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. Cyclone Trail This 9.0 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,080 feet and the ending elevation is 8,850 feet. East Fork Trail This 15.7 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,280 feet and the ending elevation is 8,402 feet. Elk Run Trail This trail, located within the Stagecoach State Park, measures 5.0 miles and is rated as "easy". The elevation is 7,200 feet, and this trail sees medium usage. Fish Creek Trail This 7.6 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 7,440 feet and the ending elevation is 10,000 feet. French Creek Canyon Trail This 5.3 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,480 feet and the ending elevation is 8,860 feet. Gold Creek Lake Trail This 7.5 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 8,400 feet and the ending elevation is 11,200 feet. Lost Lakes Trail This 6.4 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,420 feet and the ending elevation is 9,285 feet. Mandall Lakes Trail This 5.4 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,670 feet and the ending elevation is 11,960 feet. Manzanares Trail This 6.6 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 8,760 feet and the ending elevation is 9,240 feet. Marvine Trail This trail, located in the White River National Forest, measures 11.5 miles long and has a difficulty rating of "moderate". The beginning elevation of this trail is 8,100 feet and the ending elevation of 10,954 feet. Horses are permitted on this trail. Morrison Divide Trail This 13.3 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 8,227 feet and the ending elevation is 8,937 feet. North Derby Trail This 2.2 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,280 feet and the ending elevation is 10,800 feet. Rabbit Ears Peak Trail This 8.3 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,604 feet and the ending elevation is 10,654 feet. Red Dirt Trail This 6.3 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 6,800 feet and the ending elevation is 8,400 feet. Sand Creek Trail This 9.7 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,250 feet and the ending elevation is 10,480 feet. Sarvis Creek Trail This 1.5 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 7,004 feet and the ending elevation is 9,409 feet. Sawmill Creek Trail This 3.6 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 7,600 feet and the ending elevation is 8,800 feet. Sawtooth Trail This 1.8 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 11,040 feet and the ending elevation is 10,960 feet. Sheep Lake Trail #389 This 7.8 mile trail sees moderate usage. It has a beginning elevation of 10,020 feet and an ending elevation of 10,720 feet and transverses through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. Silver Lake Trail This 1.7 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,620 feet and the ending elevation is 10,820 feet. Smith Lake Trail This 0.7 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,192 feet and the ending elevation is 10,570 feet. Spring Creek Trail This 3.6 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 6,800 feet and the ending elevation is 8,000 feet. Stagecoach State Park This reservoir hosts a variety of water sports, including boating, jet-skiing, water-skiing, swimming, sailboarding and canoeing. Camping and a trail system are also available. Tepee Creek Trail This 4.4 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,000 feet and the ending elevation is 9,000 feet. Three Island Lake Trail This 6.1 mile trail travels through the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 8,150 feet and the ending elevation is 10,950 feet. Transfer Trail This 0.6 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,285 feet and the ending elevation is 9,285 feet. This trail provides direct access to the Flat Tops Wilderness. Ute Trail This 6.3 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest.
