Fishing In Wildlife Preserves & Refuges

Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area
This area is located high in the Gunnison National Forest just west of Crested Butte. The forests are thick with giant spruce and fir. Fishing is popular at this lake.

Spring Creek Reservoir State Wildlife Area
This reservoir lies in a long valley cradled by 12,000 foot peaks. Fishing is a popular pastime here.

Taylor River State Wildlife Area
It is not uncommon to find trout here that weigh over ten pounds. They wait below the dam at Taylor park Reservoir for mysis shrimp and other high-protein tidbits.

Overland Reservoir
This area offers a beautiful setting with grassy parks and thick green timber. Types of fish present include Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout.

This State Park is common for all types of watercraft. Primitive camping is available. There is a short period of fishing in the reservoir from mid-June to mid-August for northern pike only.
