Arkansas Headwaters State Recreation Area
This area offers abundant and outstanding opportunities for fishing, rafting, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, camping, mountain biking, and sightseeing among deep canyons, broad valleys and towering mountain peaks. There are five versatile camping areas with over 84 individual campsites.

This refuge is located in Park County at the elevation of 10,000 feet. It contains over 240 acres of grasslands and a pond system.

Rivers & Streams

Arkansas River
The trout population in the Arkansas is 90 percent self-reproducing brown trout and 10 percent Colorado River rainbows, which are introduced as fingerlings. Expect about 2,000 fish per mile on the average.

Badger Basin State Wildlife Area
This refuge is located in Park County at the elevation of 8,000 feet. It contains 22 miles of fishing access only, 125 feet either side of centerline of rivers. Coldwater stream fishing in Middle and South Forks of South Platte River and Four Mile Creek for rainbow, cutthroat, brown, brook trout and northern pike.

Eagle River
Much of the 70-plus mile river is open to public fishing. One can wade the Eagle during much of its prime season. It contains all the classic types of challenging fishing water.
