Shortcut Trail links with Indian Creek and Dodgeton Trails and can make a nice loop. The Dodgeton Trail connects after 3.5 miles. After hiking on Indian Creek Trail for 3 miles visitors will see Shortcut Trail heading east.
This is moderately difficult 1.5-mile trail, with elevations ranging from 9,000 to 10,200 feet.


Facilities: There are no facilities available along Shortcut Trail. Bear Lake Campground is nearby.

Best Time To Visit: Shortcut Trail's seasons are Summer through fall.

Fees: A parking fee may be charged.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Unknown

Directions: To get to Shortcut Trail from Walsenburg: Drive west on US 160, turn left onto CO State Highway 12, travel to La Veta. From La Veta take State Highway #12 to Cuchara Water and Sanitation office, turn right into Spring Creek Trailhead parking lot. Take Dodgeton trail (approximately 2.75 miles) to junction of the Shortcut trail.
