The Mule Deer Trail, located within the Golden Gate Canyon State Park, is 5.2 miles long and rated as "easy to moderate". The elevation is 8,200 feet. This trail sees medium usage. Pets are allowed on this trail.
Only 30 miles away from Denver, 12,000 acres of Golden Gate Canyon State Park awaits you with hiking, picnicking and camping among dense forest, rocky peaks and aspen-filled meadows. The mountain splendor of Golden Gate Canyon's wildflower meadows, autumn colors and views from the famous Panorama Point of over 100 miles of the Continental Divide make the park ideal for sightseers and photographers.
Miles upon miles of mountain trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding and 155 campsites make Golden Gate Canyon accessible to everyone. Golden Gate Canyon is a great place for young anglers and fall color viewing. The park has also hosted countless weddings and other special celebrations at Panorama Point.

Facilities: Restrooms, drinking water, picnic areas, and over 150 campsites are available at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park.

Accessibility: This trail is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Minors - A parent or guardian must accompany youths under 18 years of age. The person whose name appears on the reservation is responsible for the condition of the site. The Park Manager may approve the stay of a youth.

Since rules may vary depending on which park you choose to visit, please check with the Park Manager for any other rules that may apply.

Directions: To reach Mule Deer Trail from Denver, travel west on Colorado Highway 58 to Golden. Take Colorado Highway 93 north from Golden one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Road. Turn left and continue for 13 miles to the park. A trail map can be obtained from the visitor center.

To reach Mule Deer Trail from Idaho Springs, travel east on U.S. Highway 6 to Golden. Take Colorado Highway 93 north from Golden one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Road. Turn left and continue for 13 miles to the park. A trail map can be obtained from the visitor center.
To reach Mule Deer Trail from Boulder, travel south on Colorado Highway 93 to Golden Gate Canyon Road. Turn right and continue for 13 miles to the park. A trail map can be obtained from the visitor center.
