Red Shin Trail

The Red Shin Trail starts below the dam, goes through the Historic Canals, Rock Art Site, and Prowers-Hudnell ranch and comes to an end at the Santa Fe Trail Marker on the north shore of John Martin Reservoir State Park. This trail also offers a good opportunity to view many different types of wildlife.

Facilities: There are no facilities along Red Shin Campground. Restrooms, drinking water, and picnic tables are all provided at the John Martin State Park. Over 200+ campsites are also provided.

Reservations: Reservations for the campsites, near by Red Shin Campground are recommended, especially during the high volume weekends.

Best Time To Visit: Red Shin Trail is open year round. Camping is available year-round in Lake Hasty.

Fees: This State Park does have an entrance fee, as well as an overnight camping fee.

Accessibility: This trail is NOT accessible.

Rules: There are a variety of rules to consider when visiting a State Park. Please contact the local Park Manager for more specific information.

Directions: To get to Red Shin Trail from Lamar & La Junta: Take Highway 50 to Hasty. Go south from Hasty on Road 24 and travel 2 miles.
