Sapinero State Wildlife Area

Sapinero State Wildlife Area is a 1,728 acre tract situated between West Elk Creek on the west, Dry Creek on the east, & intermingled with Bureau of Land Management lands. This wildlife area is critical winter range for deer and elk, but is open for hunting and camping.

Facilities: Primitive camping is available within Sapinero State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed accepted to visit Sapinero State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Sapinero State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose. Vehicles must remain on the road. Snowmobiles are prohibited.

Directions: To get to Sapinero State Wildlife Area from Gunnison: Located 15 miles west of Gunnison in Gunnison County on US Highway 50. Access from highway at Red Creek & East Elk Creek.
