Lookout Mountain Park was established in 1917 by the City and County of Denver. Lookout Mountain Park is 65.7 acres with many scenic views, including a panorama of Denver and the plains. The construction of the Lariat Trail Road up the mountain from Golden began in 1913. This was considered the start of the Denver Mountain Park road system.
William "Buffalo Bill" Cody was buried in Lookout Mountain Park on June 3, 1917. The gravesite of this great frontiersman may be visited at the Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave atop Lookout Mountain in the park. Gifts, curios, food and beverage may be found next to the museum at the Pahaska Tepee Gift Shop.
