| Cherokee State Wildlife Area-Middle Unit has 4,481 acres of camping, wildlife viewing, and hunting opportunities. This mountainous area has elevations from 6,200 to 8,600 feet. Deer, elk, mountain lions, blue grouse, rabbits, and doves can be spotted and hunted in this State Wildlife Area. This area is also the home to the endangered Preble's meadow jumping mouse. Many different streams run through this area where there is opportunities in brown and rainbow trout fishing. The best time to catch the big ones here are in the spring when they migrate upriver. |
