There are 3 separate units to Wellington State Wildlife Area which contain several small ponds and lakes. The areas closest to Fort Collins are heavily used from September until the ponds freeze over. Although dove, rabbit, and pheasants are seen and hunted here, waterfowl is the main sport featured at the water areas.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Wellington State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted at Wellington State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Wellington State Wildlife Area is open year-round

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Area. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Fishing is prohibited.

Boating prohibited except craft propelled by hand to hunt waterfowl.
Camping, fires, and paintball shooting prohibited.
Public access prohibited on Wellington Unit from first day of regular waterfowl season to first day of pheasant season except Sat., Sun., Mon. and legal holidays.
Target practice must be authorized by area wildlife mgr.
Horseback riding prohibited except at Cobb Lake Unit during field trials.
Big game hunting restricted to archery, shotguns with slugs and muzzle loading.
Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning any type of recreational use in this State Wildlife Area.

Directions: To get to:

Wellington Unit: From Fort Collins, take I-25 at the Wellington exit (exit 278), go 0.5 miles north on the service road to County Road 64, then 1.5 miles east to the parking areas on both sides of the road.
Cobb Unit: From I-25 at the Highway 14 exit(Exit 269), go 5 miles north on the east service road to County Road 56, then 1.5 miles east to the property.
Schware Unit: From I-25 at the Highway 14 exit (Exit 269), go 7 miles north on the east service road to County Road 60, then 1 mile east to the property.
