Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area

Fishing can be good year round at the reservoir in Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area. It is stocked annually with rainbow trout and is managed as a put-and-take fishery. Ice fishing is available in the early winter months before the ice gets to thick and kills the trout. Many birds can be seen at the reservoir in this area during spring and summer including American white pelicans, cormorants, egrets, herons, and ducks.

Facilities: Camping is permitted in the parking area and a restroom is provided at Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Area. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Public access is limited to the immediate shoreline around the reservoir. Boating is prohibited if it creates a white-water wake. Hunting is prohibited. Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning any type of recreational use in this State Wildlife Area.

Directions: To get to Seymour Lake State Wildlife Area From Steamboat Springs, start out going Southwest on 5th Street toward Lincoln Ave/US-40. Turn left onto Lincoln Ave/US-40 S. Continue to follow US-40 south. Turn sharp left onto CO-14. Turn right onto County Road-28 (Portions unpaved). Turn right onto CO-125. End at Rand CO. From Rand, at the south end of the valley, go 4 miles north on Highway 125 to County Road 28, then west (left) to County Road 11, and then south (left)to the reservoir.
