Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area

Wildlife viewing, fishing, and hunting are some of the things available in Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area. Parvin Lake State Wildlife Refuge includes one of the small lakes that surround Redfeather Lakes. Belly boat fishing for trout is allowed. The lake was recently opened to ice fishing in the winter. Bait use and limits are strictly enforced. An island in the center of the lake is home to Ospreys. Waterfowl are hunted in this area.

Facilities: A restroom is available in the parking area at Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted at Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area is open year-round. Fishing is prohibited from Nov. 1-April 30. Fishing is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. from May 1-Oct. 31.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Area. There are fees to obtain fishing licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: No overnight camping. Boating prohibited, except belly boats for fishing. Oars are not allowed. Fishermen must enter the area on foot through the gate at the check station and must check in and out at the check station when open. Fishing is prohibited from Nov. 1-April 30. Fishing is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. from May 1-Oct. 31. Fishing by artificial flies or artificial lures only. Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning any type of recreational use in this State Wildlife Area.

Directions: To get to Dowdy Lake State Wildlife Area from Fort Collins, start out going North on south Sherwood Street toward west Oak Street. Turn left onto west Mountain Avenue. Turn right onto north Shields Street and CR-17. Turn left onto CO-14/CR-54G/US-287. Turn slight right. Stay straight to go onto CO-14/La Porte Bypass/US-287. Continue to follow US-287 north. Turn slight left onto CR-74E/Redfeather Lakes Road Go 2 miles east on Redfeather Road to the entrance.
