Bowen Lake Trail #120
Courtesy of EatStayPlay.com
Bowen Lake Trail #120 begins as an old road that is also ATV accessible. Visitors will cross over a few small streams before coming to a fork in the trail. Look for the elephants head flower near the streams in June and July. Continue on and take the fork to the right, the Gilsonite Trail, it also says Never Summer Wilderness access. The trail will take visitors through meadows and old growth spruce/fir forest before reaching the ridgeline (Blueridge Trail). After less than one-half mile on the ridge there are spectacular views of Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir and the cragged peaks of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Continue on the ridge before descending to Bowen Lake. The best campsites are on the east side of the Lake.
This trail has been rated as "moderate" and has heavy use. Elevation ranges from 10,378 to 11,579 feet on this 4.59-mile (one way) trail.
