As Rim Rock Nature Trail's name implies, this self-guided nature trail takes visitors along a relatively flat path following the rim of the canyon. Along this sunny route visitors will encounter a variety of plant life from sagebrush and Gambel oak to pinyon pine and Utah juniper.
This trail allows many excellent views of the Gunnison River as well as the sheer walls of the canyon. The Rim Rock Trail Guide will describe many points of interest along the way starting from the trailhead near Campground Loop C and ending at the Tomichi Point Overlook.

Facilities: Restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, 88 campsites, and grills are provided at Rim Rock Nature Trail.

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted for Rim Rock Nature Trail. Reservations may be made for campground Loops A and B. Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance.

Best Time To Visit: Rim Rock Nature Trail is open year round.

Fees: Admission fees and camping fees do apply.

Accessibility: There is an accessible Visitor Center, comfort stations and two accessible camping sites. Accessible overlooks include Tomichi Point, Chasm View, and Sunset View.

Rules: All sites have a maximum 14 consecutive day stay in a 30 day period. Vehicles greater than 35 feet are not recommended. There is a maximum of 8 persons and 2 vehicles per site. There are a variety of rules to consider while hiking in a National Park. Please contact the Park Manager for further details.

Directions: To get to Rim Rock Nature Trail from Montrose: The South Rim is located 15 miles east of Montrose, via U.S. Highway 50 and Colorado Highway 347. From there, the trailhead begins at Campground Loop C.
