The Black Canyon of the Gunnison's unique and spectacular landscape was formed slowly by the action of water and rock scouring down through hard proterozoic crystalline rock. No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
This area offers outstanding opportunities for camping, hiking, viewing scenery, bird watching, wildlife viewing, climbing, fishing, rafting, kayaking, and in the winter months, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Facilities: Restrooms, drinking water, and just over 100 individual campsites are provided at Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Reservations: Reservations are accepted to use the campsites at Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Best Time To Visit: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is open year-round.

Fees: Admission fees and camping fees do apply.

Accessibility: South Rim: Accessible Visitor Center, comfort stations and 2 accessible camping sites. Accessible overlooks include Tomichi Point, Chasm View, and Sunset View.

North Rim: Accessible overlook-Balanced Rock.

Directions: To reach Black Canyon of the Gunnison from Montrose, travel east on US Highway 50 to State Highway 347. On State Highway 347 travel northeast to the park.
