Public access is tightly guarded by private landowners along Yampa River State Wildlife Area. Trout fishing is possible, but the northern pikes are what are really biting. This State Wildlife Area is a nice place to launch a canoe and float into the town of Craig. Camping here is prohibited.


Facilities: There are no facilities offered at Yampa River State Wildlife Area. The town of Craig is seven miles away.

Best Time To Visit: Yampa River State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter this area, but hunting/fishing permits will require a fee.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Camping is prohibited. Fires are also prohibited.

Directions: To get to Yampa River State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs: Go west on US 40 to access road just over the railroad tracks, and then turn south to the parking area.
