| Facilities: There are several campgrounds and picnic areas available in the White River National Forest. Reservations: Some campgrounds do accept reservations within the White River National Forest. Best Time To Visit: The White River National Forest is open to visitors year-round. Warm days and cool to freezing nights can be expected in the mountains during the summer. July and August are usually the warmest months. During this time afternoon thunderstorms are common. Be prepared for both warm and chilly weather, as well as for rain showers. Fees: Fees and permits may be required for some activities and locations within the White River National Forest. Accessibility: The White River National Forest offers a number of recreational facilities designed with accessibility in mind for persons with disabilities. Rules: Practice "Leave No Trace" ethics. Camp only in those places specifically provided or marked.All garbage and litter must either be deposited in containers provided, or packed out.Obey any restrictions on fires.Vehicles must be parked in designated areas only.Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times while in developed recreation areas.Use of fireworks or other explosives within campgrounds and other recreation areas in the White River National Forest are prohibited.Directions: The two and one-quarter million acre White River National Forest is located in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, approximately two to four hours west of Denver on Interstate 70. The White River National Forest encompasses much of the area from the Continental Divide, west to Rifle and from Meeker, south beyond Aspen. It includes much of the area around some of Colorado's well known destinations such as Breckenridge, Vail, Glenwood Springs and Aspen. |
