Verner State Wildlife Area

Verner State Wildlife Area is accessed from a parking area that is visible from County Road 12W. The fishing in this stretch of the North Platte is marginal and challenging. Artificial flies and lures only.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Verner State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Verner State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Verner State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Stay by the river, do not cut across fields. Public access is limited to the fenced area along the river.

Directions: To get to Verner State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs: Drive east on US-40, turn right on CO State Highway 40, travel to Walden. From Walden, travel five miles west on County Road 12W to County Road 18, then 0.5 miles west to the access road on the right.
