Best Time To Visit: Taylor River State Wildlife Area is open year-round. Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information. Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible. Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose. Camping, fires, and hunting are all prohibited.From the top of Taylor Dam to downstream 325 yards: Fishing prohibited as posted, and public access prohibited.From 325 yards below Taylor Dam downstream to upper boundary of Sam's private property (.4 miles): Artificial flies and lures only. All trout must be returned to the water immediately.Directions: To reach Taylor River State Wildlife Area from Gunnison, travel ten miles north on Highway 135 to US Forest Service Road 742 (Taylor River Road), then 18 miles east to base of Taylor Reservoir. To reach Taylor River State Wildlife Area from Crested Butte, travel south on Colorado Highway 135 to US Forest Service Road 742, then 18 miles east to base of Taylor Reservoir. |
