Silver Thread Campground

Silver Thread Campground is located adjacent to Highway 149 for easy access to through travelers. The area is mostly open and grassy with little screening or trees. CO Highway 149 loops around the campground on three sides, with no screening from the campground. There is heavy highway traffic during summer months. Trail and fishing access to North Clear Creek is possible here. There is a scenic hiking trail to North Clear Creek Falls that is steep but only 900 feet long.
This facility has 11 camping units each with a parking spur, table and fire ring. A vault type toilet is provided. Drinking water comes from a spring and is piped with faucets; it is turned off after Labor Day. Garbage cans are centrally located, but visitors must pack their own after Labor Day. Firewood is not provided. A campground host is stationed here. There are usually vacancies at this campground throughout the summer.

Facilities: Restrooms, picnic tables, drinking water, and fire rings are provided at Silver Thread Campground.

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted at Silver Thread Campground.

Best Time To Visit: Silver Thread Campground is generally open from May through September.

Fees: An overnight camping fee will apply.

Rules: This campground is located within the Rio Grande National Forest; forest regulations apply.

Directions: To get to Silver Thread Campground from Ouray: Drive north on US-550 towards Montrose, turn right onto US-50. Turn right again onto CO State Highway 149, travel south to Creede. From Creede, take State Route 149 south (toward Lake City) 23 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground.
