| Facilities: There are numerous campgrounds and picnic areas within the San Juan National Forest. Reservations: Reservations may be accepted for some campgrounds located in San Juan National Forest. Best Time To Visit: San Juan National Forest is open year-round to visitors. The area has short, cool summers and long, severe winters in the mountains. The lower elevations experience a more temperate winter. There are several permanent snowfields, and snow patches that remain in sheltered areas throughout the summer.
