Canyon walls rise 1,500 feet high on either side of River Hill Campground, and the Rio Grande River rushes by, making this a choice location for witnessing Colorado's natural beauty. Large sites, some big enough for double-wide RV's, are scattered among stands of conifers.
Anglers have a multitude of options to choose from - the Rio Grande River, nearby Rio Grande and Road Canyon reservoirs, and Squaw Creek. The campground also is a popular put-in spot for rafters and kayakers making the 5-mile run down the river. Hikers, mountain bikers, and 4WD enthusiasts also have good opportunities located nearby.
This is a popular campground which remains full from mid-June through August. There are campground hosts stationed here. There are 20 sites which have a parking spur, table and fire ring. Most sites will accommodate any sized trailer up to 32 feet and some sites can take a 35 foot unit. 2 vault toilets, with lights, have been designed for handicapped, but not wheelchairs. Drinking water is provided with two wells and sink water disposal is possible. Garbage cans are centrally grouped. Firewood is not provided. There is limited parking for fishermen.
